Peugeot has released extensive details on the RCZ coupé ahead of its reveal in Frankfurt. The little French two-door has been the subject of spy activities and some concept shots. These details are the authentic deal and come straight from the administrative head office in Paris.

The RCZ has the unique property of being the first Peugeot passenger car not to use the brand’s traditional numbering system with a zero or two zeros in the middle. Standing at 1.36 metres tall the 2+2 sports car has been designed to be both aerodynamic and bold. Keeping the same double bubble roof (which can be ordered in carbon fibre) seen in the concept car, Peugeot has stayed largely true to the widely talked-about design from Frankfurt 2007.

Three engines will be available at launch. A 1.6-litre THP petrol turbo making 116 kW and torque of 240 N.m is the baseline plant. It is mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox. Average fuel consumption is 5.75 l/100km and C02 emissions are 159g/km with the manual.

Next up is a diesel 2,0-litre HDi FAP with a 6-speed manual, maximum power of 122 kW and peak torque of 340 N.m at 2 000 rpm. Fuel consumption averages 4.49 l/100km and C02 emissions stand at 139g/km.

The most powerful motor in the range is a 1,6-litre THP with 149 kW and 255 N.m of torque. An overboost function allows for an extra 20 N.m when needed. This model can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds.

Buyers can pick from either 18- or 19-inch wheels to couple with the McPherson type front suspension and rear torsion beam. Safety instruments include ESP, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and large brakes.

Peugeot says high quality materials have been used in the interior to keep with the premium goal. Goodies included are the Peugeot Connect 3D multimedia system, JBL hi-fi system, Peugeot Connect USB box and Nappa integral leather trim.

Sales of the Peugeot RCZ will start in the spring of 2010.
