The Mercedes CLC went into production back in May 2008 at the Mercedes plant in Juiz de Fora, Brazil. Unfortunately, sales for the sportscar have been worse than expected, so after only two years of production Mercedes has decided that the sun will set on the Mercedes CLC’s day. Instead of producing the coupe, Mercedes wants to start assembling commercial vehicles for South America.
The compact coupe has never met Mercedes customers’ tastes who considered it a restyled version of the C-Class Coupé and not a totally new car. More than that, the debut of the Mercedes C-Class Coupe in 2011 will leave no room in the line-up for the CLC anyway.
In South Africa the CLC is offered in two different versions, namely the the 135 kW CLC200K and the 200 kW CLC350. The CLC200 is mated to a 6-speed transmission, while the larger capacity V6 engine in the CLC350 is mated to Mercedes’ 7G-Tronic 7-speed auto ‘box.
So, it’s time to say goodbye to the Mercedes CLC. Can’t say we’ll miss it.
