French car maker Peugeot has released detailed information on their Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 – which they call the world’s first diesel hybrid production model.

The powertrain of the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 is comprised of a 2.0-litre HDi diesel engine developing 120 kW and 300 Nm of torque, with an electric motor that adds an additional 27 kW and 200 Nm of torque. This means the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 has a total output of 147 kW and 500 Nm of torque. With this drivetrain technology, the hybrid 3008 emits just 99g/km of CO2 and averages a measly 3.8 l/100km in the combined cycle.

Torque from the engine and electric motor, is split between the front and rear axles. The diesel engine sends its 300 Nm to the front axle of the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4, while the electric motor sends 200 Nm to the rear wheels. The front and rear drivetrains are not linked, due to the rear electric motor and its battery pack being connected to the car’s ECU with fly-by-wire technology.

The driver of the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 can choose between four driving modes. In the Auto mode, the
Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 is completely controlled by its computers and in the ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) mode the car is in the all-electric mode. Setting the car to four-wheel drive mode results in the 60:40 power split provided by the diesel engine and electric motor. There is one last driver mode called ‘Sport’, but somehow we doubt owners will be doing any trackdays in their 3008 Hybrid4′s.

The Hybrid4 is also equipped with the company’s latest technology in terms of Start/Stop systems and features an electronically-controlled sequential manual gearbox.

The Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 will go on sale in Europe during the first quarter of 2011.
