Honda NSX Revival On The Horizon

Posted on 08 February 2011 by Scott

Honda Motor Co. CEO, Takanobu Ito, has revealed the automaker’s plans to resume development of a successor to the Honda NSX, also known as the Acura NSX, a sports car whose production was stopped in late 2005.

The auto manufacturer halted development of the vehicle in fall of 2008 because of financial difficulties caused by the worldwide recession that followed the collapse of the Lehman Brothers company. But on Feb. 4, Ito said Honda was ready to get development rolling again. “I feel that we need to meet the calls from the public asking (for a successor),” Ito said. He didn’t mention when the car might go on sale.

The NSX, which first went on the market in 1990, had a lightweight body made with aluminum and was known for its high performance. However, it grew increasingly difficult to produce the car in accordance with tightening environmental standards and production ended in 2005. Since then, a race-car successor to the NSX, named the HSV, has been developed.
