As mentioned previously, I know the commitment that is being made from Renault SA's highest levels, so I sincerely hope that the sluggish response is an isolated case. For interest sake I have made Renault aware of your comment. Returning to my opinion on Scirocco R vs Scirocco 2.0 TSI, having not yet driven the R, I presume it will come down to a matter of the head versus the heart. More power is more fun and the R packaging looks enticing, however, you'll need to decide whether you actually need the extra power and want to pay the associated premium - I'll be looking to answer this same debate when the Golf R arrives later this month for testing. See my previous response for considerations around resale values. I would also add that if you haven't ordered, or expressed serious interest in, a Scirocco R just yet, then you could be in for a waiting period when the new car arrives. Keep in mind that Megane will be the sharper tool - I think it's the second best hot-hatch available right now. @Grant Your experience with Renault is both surprising and unfortunate. So I decided to look around on sites like HelloPeter.com (which i think is a good idea when unsure about quality/service etc..). I found one or two related to the Megane and many others on the Clio, many having to do with waiting for parts from France. After my second test drive of a blue Megane RS Cup, I decided to get a quote for a "RS sport", to which i received a quote for a "Cup" instead (this was at the Renault Tygerberg). I was obviously disappoint and contacted the Paarl branch for a quote on a Friday afternoon at around 12PM. They replied within an hour, which i was quite impressed with, and spoke on the phone to a Laurence Buchanan. I expected to receive the quote before the end of the day but didnt, so i enquired about it the Saturday, to which I was told to be patient. Come Tuesday I still hadn't heard anything, so I decided to contact him again, to which he said he would contact me first thing in the morning. As you can guess, Wednesday came and went with no reply. In every single email I Cc'd the dealer principal Pieter Van Der Linde, he then replied on Wednesday afternoon only after I asked them what was going on, in a rather cocky way, that I should be patient and if i'm a serious buyer that they will require a holding deposit??? I found this rather strange, as I'm asking for a quote? I then told him that Laurence never got back to me, to which he claimed he did not know, and said he "understands". To date I havent heard anything from them. Just makes me think, if sales staff give service like this, just imagine how they going to be once they've made the sale and the car breaks? Thanks Renault Paarl, you just lost a customer. (sorry this post should rather be on a site like HelloPeter.com, but felt I'd share it with you) That aside, whats your honest opinion (pros/cons) on the Scirocco R compared to the 2.0 TSI, as I'm really keen to purchasing the R, however still waiting for the indicative prices and specs? I know the UK version comes standard with RCD510, adaptive chassis control, and cheaper than the Golf R, however knowing VWSA, it wont come with either of those as standard features, and be more expensive than the Golf R (which i find really hard to understand). Do you perhaps have any information about specs/price? Cheers Grant Hi Scott,

The clutch is far easier to live with than the RS Cup around town. The RS Sport has an electrically adjustable driver's seat, plus additional features like sat-nav. The Sport has the same power as the Cup and considerably more than the Scirocco. Overall, the Sport's features give it the edge in the value-for-money stakes over the Scirocco, plus it's a lot cheaper than the Cup. In terms of resale, after 5/6 years you're going to have lost plenty in depreciation, so you may as well enjoy what you drive during that time. In theory though, the Megane stands to lose less due to its better performance and spec to begin with over the Scirocco, which is something used hot hatch buyers will look for. Still on the resale point, the Scirocco was launched in mid-2009, 18 months before the RS, so in 5/6 years time we're likely to have a new version, whereas you may still be able to sell the Megane before the fourth generation arrives. In the hot hatch league, however, if you want fair resale value then buy a GTI. In terms of Renault's customer service, they've invested plenty time and money to right their past wrongs. Key to Renault's climb up the sales charts is that the drive and commitment to customer satisfaction is coming from Xavier Gobille (Renault SA Managing Director) and his management team. A top-down approach and being led by example is usually a recipe for success. You can find out more about Renault's dedication to customer satisfaction in the introduction to their new Fluence sedan here. The Golf R is being launched in the first week of April and the Scirocco R in early June. The Polo GTI is arriving in the second week of April and is expected to sell around the R260k mark. @Grant Having driven all three and hearing your likes/dislikes, I’d say the Megane RS Sport is the most sensible choice. You almost sound like a Renault salesman hehe jokes aside. I'm torn between two cars, VW Scirocco R and the Meganè RS Sport/Cup. I've test driven the Scirocco 2.0 TSI DSG: what i liked: good interior, electric seats what i disliked: i expected more boot space, the only problem is that its an automatic and can't find a manual to test drive anywhere. and Meganè RS Cup (test driven twice): what i liked: very responsive, attractive exterior, reasonable boot space what i disliked: hard clutch (not quite sure if i'll get used to it), Recaro seats can make getting in and out of the car a pain. My heart says Meganè but logic tells me the Scirocco, let me explain. I believe the Scirocco will have a better resale value come 5/6 years from now. One thing that bothers me about Renault, is the horror stories you hear of people waiting weeks for parts that need to be shipped from France. After speaking to a couple of people including Ignition GT on DSTV, they all agree that Renault SA has cleaned up there act. Whats your take on this? In your honest opinion with pros and cons, would you recommend the Scirocco or Meganè RS Sport or Cup? I put the Scirocco R on because it comes out later this year, will retail for approx. R420k and the same engine as the Golf R but without the 4motion system. Cheers Grant Hi Scott,

I’m torn between two cars, VW Scirocco R and the Meganè RS Sport/Cup.
I’ve test driven the Scirocco 2.0 TSI DSG:
what i liked: good interior, electric seats
what i disliked: i expected more boot space, the only problem is that its an automatic and can’t find a manual to test drive anywhere.
and Meganè RS Cup (test driven twice):
what i liked: very responsive, attractive exterior, reasonable boot space
what i disliked: hard clutch (not quite sure if i’ll get used to it), Recaro seats can make getting in and out of the car a pain.
