The classic Lotus 7 design will never die and this is one of the latest recreations to prove it’s still a styling favourite. It’s a design study called the Lotus New 7 by Diseno-Art and it captures the original Seven’s personality and transforms it into a modern work of art.
The rear bulkhead is one single-piece of bodywork, which contains the rear wheel arches as opposed to the original which offered an almost open-wheel design. This rear section also houses the differential and rear boot compartment much like the original. The side of the car features a similar low doorline to the original, but again, it’s moulded into a much more modern shape.
Interestingly, the doors aren’t actually doors as you simply step over and into the cabin. The front end still utilises that open-wheel layout with exposed suspension cross members. The front lights also rest alone in between the nose of the car and the front wheel guards. Under the bonnet, the designer says customers would be able to select between a number of four-cylinder engines, with and without turbocharging.
It’s a well executed evolution from ‘old school’ to just plain cool and shows that even the most basic of layouts can be modernised in a tasteful way. The car’s creator says all of the body parts could be removed very easily too, allowing enthusiasts and beginners easy access to fine-tune the running gear to suit their needs. We like it. What do you think?
