This is the first official sketch of the all-new Ford Focus-rivalling Hyundai i30, revealed ahead of its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
Introduced in 2007, the first generation i30 was a huge sales success, and Hyundai claims the new car maintains the quality, practicality and value for money of the original while adding more style into the mix.
Displaying the latest take on Hyundai’s fluidic sculpture design language, the new i30′s dimensions are expected to be much the same, but will follow the lines we’ve seen in cars like the i40 and ix35. Visually we’re going to get Hyundai’s hexagonal grill flanked by jewel-like headlights and a more cohesive and fluid shape than the current i30. That all makes for a more aggressive stance and a bolder statement on-road.
According to Thomas Bürkle, Hyundai’s chief designer: “The hexagonal appearance is unique to Hyundai, with the jewel-like front headlamps which flank the grille adding a strong personality to the vehicle, as well as a sense of refinement and luxury.”
There are no technical details just yet, so we’ll need to wait to hear more once the car has taken its first bow in Frankfurt, however, we’re likely to see a similar range of engines to the current i30 – 1.4 and 1.6 petrol and the 1.6 CRDi – and you probably wouldn’t be at odds to bet on an i30 Blue with sub 100 g/km CO2 emissions being announced before long.
