If you weren’t impressed by the Honda Civic Type R Mugen, perhaps this upgraded 2.2 version will do the trick.
Built to celebrate the 2.0-litre K20 petrol engine, which recently went out of production, the model has an increased bore and stroke giving a displacement of 2 156 cc (2.2-liters). Thanks to this change, it produces 191 kW and 240 Nm of torque.
Production plans haven’t been finalised, but Honda is considering two options: convert the four remaining unsold 2010 Civic Type R Mugens or offer the conversion to existing owners.
In a statement, Mugen Euro’s vice president Hiro Toyoda said “Environmental pressures mean naturally aspirated engines are rapidly being superseded by other engine architectures and technologies. We may never see the like of the K20 in a mainstream production car again, so felt it only fitting we mark the occasion with this special 2.2 version of the Honda Civic Type R.”
