Volkswagen Confirms Production Of 5-Door Up!

Volkswagen has confirmed the 2012 Up! will be offered in a five-door body style.

For the five-door Up! VW decided not not simply add a set of rear doors, but to differentiate the car over the three-door version by giving it styling cues of an SUV, including suspension raised by 15 mm. The five-door looks chunkier than the three-door and seems to be styled in the same manner as the larger CrossPolo. VW have also added silver-coloured underbody protection at both ends, roof rails, and 16-inch alloy wheels. The five-door Up! promises to be a lot more functional and practical than its three-door counterpart.

Engine options are expected to carryover, so there should be a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol with outputs of 44 kW and 55 kW. Regardless of the final details, however, the five-door Up! will be launched late next year.
