Volvo V40 Details And Photo Gallery

The number of official teasers for the Volvo V40 have been limited to a silhouetted photo and a video offering nothing you could call useful information. In the past two weeks however, we’ve seen a flood of ‘leaked’ images that have left little to the imagination, revealing the slick new hatch from every angle, inside and out.

Now though, we have more news coming our way thanks to Greek website Auto2Day, who claim to have all the details we’ve been missing to-date.

We start with the Volvo V40′s dimensions. The five-door V40 will reportedly measure in 2 041 mm wide and 4 369 mm long, riding on a 2 647 mm wheelbase – which is roughly 40 mm longer and wider than the new BMW 1 Series five-door, but with a 50 mm shorter wheelbase.

Moving on to the engine line-up. Buyers can expect a choice of six powerplants at launch, three petrol and three diesel engines, along with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Volvo’s new stop-start and rear-axle kinetic energy regeneration systems are also expected to appear as standard equipment across all engine and transmission combinations.

The petrol range consist of a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder ‘T3′ producing 110 kW and 240 Nm of peak torque between 1 600 and 4 000 r/min. The T3 will only be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Acceleration from 0 – 100 km/h will take 8.8 seconds and top speed is 210 km/h. Average fuel consumption is 5.8 L/100km with CO2 emissions of 134 g/km. The ‘T4′ version of the same 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, produces 132 kW and 240 Nm of torque also from 1 600 r/min. Topping the petrol line-up will be Volvo’s familiar 2.5-litre T5 engine, delivering an enhanced 187 kW and 360 Nm of torque – up from 177 and 320 Nm. Acceleration from 0 – 100 km/h is said to be 6.5 seconds, top speed is 250 km/h and average fuel consumption is 7.9 L/100km. The T5 will be available exclusively with an automatic transmission.

In diesel form, the 84 kW and 270 Nm 1.6-litre ‘D2′ engine is expected to return fuel consumption figures as low as 3.6 L/100km. A 2.0-litre turbocharged 5-cylinder D3 unit, will offer 111 kW and 350 Nm of torque, while a range-topping D4 engine will provide 132 kW and 420 Nm.

If correct, this latest news leaves little left to uncover about the new Volvo V40. In any event, with an official debt set for Geneva next week, we won’t have long to wait.
