The Swedish nutter that is Christian von Koenigsegg says the new supercar that wears his family name will be the fastest car ever. While the world’s more established supercar makers faff with hybrid technology, KERS, battery packs, etc, the Koenigsegg One:1, yes, One:1 is its name for now and refers to its goal of becoming the first production car to achieve a one-to-one power-to-weight ratio; dabbles exclusively in visceral acceleration and blistering top speed.
The Koenigsegg One:1 may only be at the beginning of its prototype phase and will only start testing later this year but Christian von Koenigsegg says he won’t stop till his car reaches a top speed of 450 km/h and beyond. The derestricted Bugatti Veyron Super Sport has touched 430.98 km/h at the top end and the Hennessey Venom GT has achieved 427 km/h. The current Koenigsegg Agera S produces 758 kW and 1 100 Nm of torque.
For the Koenigsegg One:1 to achieve its desired one-to-one power-to-weight ratio it will need its twin-turbo 5.0-litre V8 to deliver about 1 400-horsepower, or 1 030 kW to match its 1 400 kg wet weight that includes all fluids and a driver. The Swede says computer projections suggest it will be the fastest-accelerating car in the world from 0-200, 0-300 and 0-400 km/h. With 400 km/h arriving in less than half the time it takes in a Bugatti Veyron and in a dazzling 20 seconds.
The One:1 will be based on Koenigsegg’s existing carbon fibre monocoque Agera supercar, except it will feature numerous unique components that will no doubt result in an astronomical price development cost and finally asking price should the car ever actually go on sale to the public. Only six examples will be built.
