Mahindra Bolero Maxitruck Plus
The Mahindra Bolero Maxitruck Plus is the new single-cab workhorse in the range. It’s never been the prettiest thing around but then again it aims to fulfil the simplest commercial roles; big capacity, low running costs and reliability. Oh and then there’s the price. Low, we’re told.
Fewer doors and a longer wheelbase result in a larger loadbox area. At 2 500 x 1 540 x 295 mm (LxWxH), the new model’s cargo box offers an impressive 1,13 cubic metres of cargo space, while the extended payload of 1 150 kg means the cargo space can be used to the full.
The rest is de facto as you’d expect from a workhorse of such circumstance. Leaf springs front and rear, 170mm ground clearance, higher profile tyres on 15-inch steelies. And you won’t need to dust yourself off when you climb inside because the cloth interior is devoid of surfaces that scratch or dirty easily. The smaller turning circle will mean less chance of backing a full load of compost over someone’s driveway.
The engine has as few working parts as necessary but that still means a 2.5-litre turbodisel with direct injection across the four cylinders. The kilowatts readout of 45kW is less than you get in a 1.0-litre Volkswagen UP! but there’s 195Nm to provide some semblance of forward movement.
“The addition of the Maxitruck Plus to our Bolero pick-up range confirms Mahindra’s commitment to providing South African buyers with authentic, robust and functional vehicles that are tough, reliable and affordable,” says Ashok Thakur, CEO of Mahindra SA.
The new Mahindra Bolero Maxitruck Plus is offered at a recommended retail price of R127 995 and is supported by a two-year/50 000 km warranty. Services are at 10 000 km intervals.
