More Mazda2 For You

Mazda is extending its Mazda2 range with the introduction of the Mazda2 sedan.

“The B-segment is an important market for us and by expanding the Mazda2 range with the introduction of a sedan derivative we are able to offer customers even greater choice,” explains Doreen Mashinini, Marketing Manager Mazda South Africa.

The Mazda2 sedan will be introduced with four model derivatives: the 1.3 Active; 1.5 Active; 1.5 Dynamic and 1.5 Individual.

The Mazda2 sedan shares a similar face to that of its hatchback sibling, with a large five-point grille. The side styling is slightly more subtle and refined than that of the hatchback with a single cohesive look. The C-pillar features a forward and downward curve at the bottom of the leading edge to give an impression of sturdy support for inputs from the rear wheel. Also, the trailing edge has a taut downward curve toward the boot lid to maintain the unity essential in a sedan design. A rear tail lamps feature a clear lens at the periphery and a red portion with inner lenses that give a look of depth for an overall impression of high quality.

The entry level Mazda2 1.3 and 1.5 Active models boast features like manually operated air conditioning; remote central locking; power windows front and rear; height adjustable steering wheel, Aux-In jack and radio/single CD with MP3 compatibility. Safety features are also impressive with ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution), dual front airbags and ISOFIX child seat attachments included.

The 1.5 Dynamic model receives over and above the Active 15” alloy wheels, body colour door handles and rear decklid spoiler; front fog lamps, driver information system, leather covered steering wheel and gearknob, and audio controls on the steering wheel.

Topping the range is the 1.5 Individual with 16” alloy wheels, sports suspension, automatic air conditioning, curtain airbags front and rear, side airbags and smart start keyless entry.

The 1.3-litre engine boasts a maximum output of 63kW @ 6 000 r/min and a torque peak of 122 Nm at 3 500 r/min, while the 1.5-litre Sequential Valve Timing (S-VT) engine offers 76 kW of power at 6 000 r/min and maximum torque of 135 Nm at 4 000 r/min. Fuel consumption for the 1.3-litre engine is 5.8 l/100km, while the 1.5-litre unit requires an equally frugal 6.4 l/100km.

MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion-beam axle at the rear, give the Mazda2 it’s great roadholding, while the rigid chassis ensures accurate handling of inputs to the suspension system.

Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) ensures the Mazda2 is easy to maneuver on urban roads and tightens at higher speeds for a feeling of stability. The front 14-inch ventilated discs and rear 8-inch drum brakes are said to provide some of the best braking performance in the class.
