Local tuner LupiniPower is in the midst of a revival and will reveal its latest creation, a 110kW Ford Fiesta 1.6, in collaboration with Lazarus Ford at this weekend’s Top Gear Festival at Kyalami. LupiniPower are no stranger to building fast Fords, having had plenty of experience modifying the Escort XR3 in the 1980s and later the Ford Laser and Sapphire models.
The LupiniPower Fiesta has been developed in conjunction with Lazarus Ford and is based on the standard Fiesta 1.6 but produces 110 kW at 6 200 r/min versus the standard car’s 88 kW at 6 000 r/min. Torque climbs from 149 Nm in the standard car to 175 Nm at the same 4 250 r/min peak. The increased power has been achieved with modifications to the camshafts and cylinder head, a free-flow exhaust system and a reprogrammed ECU.
The car’s running gear has also been uprated with a set of progressive-rate coil springs and a lower ride height. Larger brakes and 17-inch alloy wheels with 205/40 profile rubber are also available. Together with the matt black wrap seen here, LupiniPower have made the cute looking Fiesta seem a little angry. The firm say several wrapping options will be available when the car is launched later in 2011, when we expect to hear official performance figures and pricing.
The Lupini Ford Fiesta is sold with a 3-year/unimited kilometre LupiniPlan warranty, with the option to extend it to 5-years. More on the Lupini Fiesta and other LupiniPower products can be found here.
