McLaren MP4-12C HS Extended Production Run

Back in January we reported on an exclusive production run of five ‘beefed up’ McLaren MP4-12C supercars, known as the HS, or High Sport. It’s now come to our attention that in fact an additional five MP4-12C HS cars have been built.

As a refresher, the McLaren MP4-12C High Sport was commissioned by a dealer and created by McLaren Special Operations at Woking. The MP4-12C High Sport took styling cues from McLaren’s MP4-12C GT3 race car, giving the road going HS a new nose, larger air intake vents, a new rear bumper, diffuser and rear wing, as well as a new set of alloy wheels. On the performance front, McLaren squeezed an extra 55 kW from the compact 3.8-litre, twin-turbocharged, V8 engine, for a total output of 496 kW (up from 441 kW).

So why were an extra five High Sport models built? Well, the dealer who originally commissioned the MP4-12C High Sport sold the first five cars so quickly that he ordered another five right away. Of those five extra cars, four have already been sold – including one to a very high-profile footballer in Spain – with just one, a white MP4-12C High Sport, still up for sale.

So go on, treat yourself, although by the time you read this we suspect the last HS will be spoken for. Then again, maybe it won’t be the last.
