Mercedes-Benz recently announced the new SL 65 AMG and now they’ve gone one step further, with an AMG version to celebrate the model’s 45th anniversary. The new SL 65 AMG 45th Anniversary Edition will be limited to only 45 units and will go on sale in September 2012.
Giving the SL 65 AMG 45th Anniversary its unique appeal are a number of bespoke features, starting with the unique matte grey finish called “designo magno graphite”. The exterior enhancements also include a carbon fibre body kit comprising of the cross strut in the front apron, the exterior mirrors and the spoiler lip, while the engine cover is also made from the same material.
The exclusive styling is finished with the black chrome plating of the quad tailpipes and the special forged wheels, painted in titanium grey with high-sheen ‘dish’ and matt finish, that wear 255/35 R19 tyres at the front and 285/30 R20 at the rear.
For the interior, Mercedes has outfitted the SL 65 AMG 45th Anniversary with upholstery in ‘designo exclusive style’ leather in titanium grey pearl/ginger beige. The car also gets electrically adjustable AMG sports seats, embossed AMG emblems on the seat backrests and designo nappa leather roof lining in ginger beige, featuring special stitching details in AMG V12 diamond pattern. There is also a badge on the ashtray cover denoting each specific car’s unit number out of the exclusive 45 car production run.
The SL 65 SMG is powered by the same 6.0-litre V12 bi-turbo engine that delivers a total of 463 kW and 1 000 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an AMG Speedshift Plus 7-speed transmission with four individual drive programs that can be selected at the touch of a button on the center console – Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S), Sport plus (S+), and Manual (M). It can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.0 seconds, while top speed goes up to 298 km/h.
The new SL 65 AMG 45th Anniversary will go on sale in September 2012. Prices will be announced at a later date.
