Nissan Tiida SSS Announced

2013 Nissan Tiida SSS

While we await the arrival of the new Nissan Tiida, the company is set to use it as a platform to revive the famed ‘SSS’ badge in Australia.

The Datsun 1600 SSS of 1969 was heralded for its combination of lightweight, 82 kW and independent rear suspension; all pretty impressive attributes for a car built over 40 years ago. the 2013 Nissan Tiida SSS, or Pulsar SSS as it will be known in Australia, is unlikely to be as ground-breaking. That being said, with a 1.6-litre turbochaged engine borrowed from the Nissan Juke, the Tiida SSS will have 141 kW and 240 Nm at its disposal.

The Tiida SSS will be available with either a 6-speed manual or CVT transmission. Performance figures aren’t known at this stage, but the similarly powered Juke manages an 8 second 0 -100 km/h sprint, so the SSS could do the same in closer to 7 seconds. The Tiida SSS rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, features a sporty bodykit and leather interior trim.

No pricing has been released, but the car will go on sale in China before reaching Australia, following its public debut at the 2012 Sydney Motor Show.
