Honda Brio Sedan For Emerging Markets

Honda Brio Amaze

Honda has unveiled the sedan version of its Brio hatchback, a sub-compact city car that that we first saw back in 2010 and which will be launched in South Africa in December, 2012.

The little Honda is distinguished not only by its larger boot, but also by a new name, the Brio Amaze. Where the Brio Amaze doesn’t differ from its hatchback counterpart is with its choice of engines. A suitably small 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, petrol engine produces 67 kW and is matched to a 5-speed CVT transmission, which together help return fuel consumption of around 5.0 L/100km.

A 1.5-litre diesel engine will also be offered, which features Honda’s new ‘Earth Dreams’ technology. While no figures are available for this diesel engine yet, the Earth Dreams technology includes Variable Timing Control, direct injection technology, as well as DOHC and VTEC systems, together with extensive reduction in internal friction.

Specification and levels of equipment vary depending on the market, but the Brio Amaze can be equipped with ABS, EBD and dual front airbags, along with USB/Aux-In connectivity, remote central locking and nine cupholders.

The Honda Brio Amaze is destined for emerging markets such as India, South East Asia and, with the hatchback launching very shortly in SA, there’s a strong possibility we could see it on local roads too.
