Porsche has broken new ground with its US$100-million American headquarters, which will now feature a 2.6 km test track and handling road course as part of an extensive customer experience centre. Porsche Cape Town has had such a thing for some time now, it’s called the N7 highway and an area known as Contermanskloof, where you’ll see wide-eyed Porsche test drives taking place at any hour of the day. Of course a dedicated test track is always a good thing, with less traffic to mar the experience.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new headquarters in Atlanta took place this week at the facility called the ‘One Porsche Drive’ site. It will not only include the test track facility where current and potential customers can explore the capabilities of Porsche vehicles, but also has all the boring corporate offices, technical service centres, conference centres and a museum, which employs some 400 workers in total.
Dealership-sponsored Porsche group events are also an option for utilising the track, further fostering the loyalty between Porsche retailers and their customers. The ‘One Porsche Drive’ facility is adjacent to Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and is due for completion in the second half of 2014. America is still the single biggest market for Porsche in the world. A similar facility (with an even larger test track) is under construction on the West Coast. It will also serve as the home of Porsche Motorsport North America once completed.
