First Rendering: Gumpert Tornante

Fresh from the German supercar makers’ re-emergence from provisional insolvency in August, a production version of their next supercar project, the Gumpert Tornante, has made its first public appearance via some leaked trademark renderings.

New investors have recently breathed new-life into the automaker that brought us the potent Gumpert Apollo, and the follow-up Tornante supercar will most likely make a public debut in Geneva next March where pricing information and a full set of technical details will be released.

We first saw the futuristic Gumpert as a ‘Concept Touring’ model at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011, and the latest renderings do show a slight design adaptation since that original.

Designed by an ex-Audi engineer, the transformation from a concept car to a road-going, production car has meant the Tornante has gained a smaller grille, sharper headlights and a redesigned rear end with horizontal tail lamps and louvers instead of a split rear window.

The front lip spoiler and diffuser remain unchanged, as do the must-have accessory for any supercar, gullwing doors. The Geneva concept car was built on an advanced chrome-molybdenum steel space frame with a carbon-fibre body. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed semi-automatic transmission controlled by shift paddles.

The Gumpert Tornante will be powered by the same Audi sourced engine as the Gumpert Apollo, the 4.2-litre V8, but with added bi-turbos for extra performance and the ability to deliver up to 522 kW and 900 Nm of torque.
