We’ve been ignoring much of the speculation around the dramatic and stunning Lexus LF-CC Concept, because, quite frankly, we thought the car’s name sounded like a photo copier / fax machine combo and we’ve also learnt our lesson with Lexus, who kept the LF-A in development for 12 years before finally making it a reality.
We cannot resist any longer, however, and we’re imploring Lexus to just make the damn thing already. It looks absolutely stunning and after whetting our appetites with the ludicrously expensive and unattainable Lexus LF-A, the LF-CC Concept should hit the spot right where it counts with hooked customers. News has now emerged, via an unnamed source at Lexus, that the company has reportedly confirmed that the sports coupe will debut by 2015. Hooray!
Other speculation mentions that Lexus has registered the name ‘RC 350′ in Australia, lending weight to talk of the new coupe actually coming to market and will be sharing its rear-wheel drive platform with the next IS sedan. The LF-CC-based RC coupe is likely to draw power from the familiar 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine doing service in the current IS350 and GS350, possibly with a 450h-like hybrid configuration for greater power, exclusivity and fuel economy.
The car boasts Lexus’ efforts to create a sportier image and reinvent itself as a manufacturer of fast, exciting machinery. The US will be the most important market for the new car, where the new RC coupe (or convertible) would fill the space left by the awful Lexus SC, a car that Top Gear recently voted as the “worst car in the world” in one of their TV specials. The Lexus SC went out of production in 2010.
