The struggling French automaker may only be seeing ‘red’ in their bottom line just lately, but that hasn’t stopped them embracing it and launching a new Citroën DS3 Red special edition. Using the mid-range Style and range-topping DS3 Sport trim levels in Europe and the U.K., the Red model adds extra equipment, a red interior and wouldn’t you just guess, plenty of red exterior trim as well.
The DS3 Red models are available in metallic black pearl and polar white, with all cars featuring a contrasting red roof and door mirrors. The DS3’s distinctive grille and Citroën chevrons are also finished in red, while the alloy wheels are paired to match the exterior body colour. Citroën DS3 Red versions based on the Style specification receive 16-inch wheels in ‘Ashera’ design and Sport models roll on 17-inch ‘Bellone’ offerings. The DS3 Red models include Citroën’s Connect Signature packages as standard, which includes Bluetooth and USB connectivity.
The Red models that start out life as Sport models also benefit from the Connect Signature package, but benefit further with automatic headlights and wipers, rear parking sensors, electric door mirrors, an anti-dazzle rear view mirror, interior mood lighting and a front central armrest.
Where it is sold, the Citroën DS3 Red can be had with a 1.6-litre VTi 120 normally aspirated petrol engine, a frugal e-HDi 90 or e-HDi 115 diesel engine (which we don’t get in South Africa), or the spicy THP 155, turbocharged 1.6-litre derivative. Pricing-wise the Red models retail for between R8 000 – R10 000 more than the regular DS3s upon which they’re based.
