A lot of people think the Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 are just a little too underpowered. That’s because the compact, Subaru, D-4S boxer engine that comes standard under the bonnet only develops 147 kW and maximum torque of 205 Nm. The BRZ / 86 therefore takes a stodgy 7.0 seconds to get to 100 km/h before touching its top speed of 220 km/h.

Last year we brought you news of a bunch of guys called, Weapons Grade Performance (WGP), who envisioned fitting a 6.0-litre LS2 V8 engine they got out of a Pontiac GTO (equivalent Chevrolet Lumina SS to us in South Africa) to give the Scobby 300 kW. We can only imagine the soundtrack and the straight line performance that will result.

Now we are happy to report that six months later the madcap tuners have done it. Sure, the new V8 engine is very heavy underneath that low BRZ bonnet and it probably messed with the natural balance of the car. But at least it is no ordinary engine. This particular LS2 V8 engine is customised as well and features components from a selection of different LS-powered V8 muscle cars like the Cadillac CTS-V. WGP have not realised exact power figures however.

Weapons Grade also upgraded their Subaru BRZ with a selection of performance-oriented components, most notably new coilover suspension from KW Shocks and a set of carbon ceramic brakes from the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. So, you can think of it as greatest hits from General Motors muscle cars, all shoehorned into the little Subaru BRZ. Make a video please WGP.
