The new Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last month and Mercedes-Benz South Africa have been quick to bring it to local shores at the Johannesburg International Motor Show.
Mercedes say the compact SUV will fit right into the adventurous lifestyle favoured by South Africans and will be adept at covering the variety of road surfaces in our country.
To this end, the GLA is equipped with the manufacturer’s permanent all-wheel drive 4Matic system, with fully variable torque distribution.
Although built on the A-Class platform, the The Mercedes GLA is 125 mm longer, 24 mm wider and 61 mm taller than the A-Class. The GLA also accommodates 80-litres more cargo, with 421-litres.
The all-new GLA is available initially with a choice of 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrol engines, with 115 kW and 155 kW in theh GLA 180 and GLA 250 respectively. Two diesel engines in the GLA 200 CDI and GLA 220 CDI offer combinations of 100 kW /300 Nm and 125 kW/350 Nm respectively.
The GLA diesel models will be available from April 2014, followed by the petrol models later in 2014. The powerful GLA 45 AMG will arrive towards the end of 2014.
