If the orgiastic feast of exhaust noise and stunning looks that is the Jaguar F-Type Roadster V8 S isn’t enough to get the five-year old in you going, then the newly-launch Jaguar F-Type Coupe with a range-topping F-Type R Coupe with 410 kW will certainly do the trick.
The Jaguar F-Type Coupe and F-Type R Coupe are one of the many poorly-kept secrets ahead of the Los Angeles Motor Show but despite the spy shots from the Nurburgring and a raft of teaser and concept images of the F-Type Coupe as a follow-up to the F-Type Roadster, the groundswell of excitement over this hardtop sports car knows no bounds.
The F-Type Coupe and F-Type Coupe V6 S get the same supercharged V6 engine in different states of tune as the F-Type Roadster, the new F-Type R gets Jaguar’s full-fat 410 kW supercharged V8, and a claimed 0 – 100 km/h time of 4.0 seconds dead and a limited top speed of 300 km/h. This means, somewhat strangely, the F-Type Coupe doesn’t get the ‘regular,’ if you could call it that, supercharged V8 from the in the Roadster V8 S.
Pricing wise, however, at £85 000 (R1.3-million in a direct currency exchange) the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe will only be about £5 000 (R70 000) more than the less-powerful V8S Roadster.
The Jaguar F-Type R Coupe still has the smooth ZF eight-speed automatic transmission putting that power onto the ground via the rear wheels. The extra dynamism and rigidity of the all-aluminium F-Type Coupe will no doubt heighten the driving experience even further.
Along with adaptive dynamics, an even stiffer suspension, spring rates are up 4.3% at the front axle – 3.7% the rear, an electronic diff and torque vectoring system and bigger brakes (with ceramic brakes optional). The F-Type R’s lightweight aluminium construction has the highest torsional rigidity of any production Jag (33 000 Nm/degree) and it also boasts a 407-litre boot (up from the Roadsters 196 litres).
Below the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe the two V6 models are priced roughly at a £7 000 advantage compared to the Roadster. The new Jaguar F-Type Coupe and F-Type R will go on sale in 2014 in South Africa. Watch the promotional video here:
