Video: BMW M235i Drifts Itself

BMW M235i Coupe

The recently announced BMW M235i has been shown in a number of official videos already. We’ve heard from BMW’s head of exterior design, Domagoj Dukec, and product manager of the BMW 2 Series, Thomas Ebner. We’ve seen the car thrashed around the Thruxton circuit by European and three-time World Touring Car Champion, Andy Priaulx. Now we see the M235i in action again at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but this time the sporty two-door is driving itself.

The BMW M235i prototype seen here is on show at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and is running a system called ‘ActiveAssist’. Now it’s amazing enough to have self-driving capabilities, nevermind the ability for a car to drift itself. In actual fact, BMW is using the system as an active safety measure with the ability to correct any under- or oversteer behaviour on behalf of the driver, and no doubt far safer and more predictable manner.
