Here’s a look at the BMW M4 DTM and pit crew in a completely different light – infra-red to be exact. BMW Motorsport is using thermal imaging to assess their car’s heat signature both inside and out, in a effort to learn where improvements can be made for the benefit of both the car and driver.
As you can see, the carbon ceramic brakes, together with the wheels and tyres are some of the hottest running compenents. The brakes, for example, can reach temperatures of up to 800 degrees Celsius, while the tyre warmers heat the wheels and rubber to in excess of 80 degrees.
