Koenigsegg considers mainstream market
Koenigsegg Automotive is renowned for its expensive hypercars, but more specifically its innovative technology, and there are developments underway that could see this technology being used in ‘normal cars.’ This would either occur under a new sub-brand or in other manufacturers’ cars.
The mastermind behind Koenigsegg’s success and founder, Christian von Koenigsegg, mentioned in an interview that “within our company there could be room to start utilising all the technological developments we have created, and trickle them down into more normal cars.”
These tamed versions developed by Koenigsegg would likely wear a different name. Christian von Koenigsegg believes that “Koenigsegg should stay in this rarified area”, however he did mention that a new sub-brand under the Koenigsegg wing could be the answer. A collaboration with other vehicle manufacturers has not been dismissed either.
Here’s a fun fact. Did you know that the Regera is a hybrid petrol-electric hypercar? And did you know that the Regera uses a direct drive system that does without the traditional gearbox? This is without a doubt a modern day technological revolution, and with more and more manufacturers embracing the hybrid vehicle movement, it would be appealing to implement these systems into mainstream vehicles.
In a world where almost every vehicle manufacturers is reinventing ancient technology, it’s refreshing to see individuals like Christian von Koenigsegg challenging this mindset. And the fact that he’s thinking about us, the ‘normal’ people is all the more admirable.
