This is the Honda HR-V, a new Crossover vehicle from the great minds at Honda. Now before you sarcastically think to yourself “Another Crossover? What a time to be alive…”, it’s worth noting the genius that is the little Honda HR-V. One of the most important factors behind the Honda HR-V is the fact that instead of designing a Crossover as a scaled-down SUV, the Honda HR-V is more of an unconventional upsized Coupé, setting it aside from other offerings in this saturated market.
The exterior design of the Honda HR-V can be summed up in one word. “Voluptuous”. From the sleek roofline to the curvy wheel arches, the Honda HR-V definitely looks good, and she’s not just a pretty face either. A higher and wider stance, accompanied with alloy wheels and a tidy roof rail adds an element of ruggedess, making it one of the best looking Crossovers on the current market.
The interior of the Honda HR-V appears to have undergone the wizardry of Honda engineering, with pretty spacious, and competitive, figures released by Honda. With the rear “Magic Seats” folded down, the most practical configuration gives you 1002 litres of space. The interior is also graced with a touch of modern technology, with a 5″ or a 7″ colour touch screen display, bluetooth media and handsfree calling functions available between the two variants.
The Honda HR-V is available in two front wheel driven variants, the 88kW 1.5litre petrol Comfort variant, and the upmarket 105kW 1.8litre petrol Elegance model. Both models are equiped with Honda’s CVT technology, which computes a virtual 7-speed gearbox that can be controled via shift paddles, creating an even more immersive driving experience.
The Comfort variant comes equiped with a 5″ infotainment system and Bluetooth connectivity and is reasonably priced at R299 900.
The Elegance model comes specced with a leather interior, Auto LED headlight with daytime runners, a 7″ infotainment system and a rear view camera with keyless ignition. The Elegance model is priced at the R354 900 mark.
The pricing of the Honda HR-V, coupled to its efficiency will certainly make it a hit with local markets following the latest petrol price hikes. Watch this space.
