Safety and technology form two key areas for 2017 Chevrolet Trailblazer
Chevrolet has released the revised Trailblazer line up comprising of five manual and automatic versions, giving buyers a wider array of options in terms of specifications and drivetrains with better value for money.
The 2017 Trailblazer is now safer and more refined than ever before with safety features such as Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Thanks to improved sound suppressing materials, cabin noise is reduced by more than half.
“The new Trailblazer brings together superior levels of refinement, styling, comfort and technology with class-leading performance and drivability to meet the versatile needs of increasingly discerning customers,” said Brian Olson, vice president vehicles sales, service and marketing General Motors Sub-Saharan Africa.
In terms of revised drivetrains – buyers are now able to opt for the 132kW 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission in LT trim level. Irrespective of load, the 2.5L automatic model has power in all the right places. With a top speed limited to 180km/h and a rating of 8.6l/100 km, Chevrolet claims the automatic model takes 11.0 seconds to reach the 100 km/h mark.
When matched with the six speed manual transmission, the 2.5-litre turbo diesel has the same top speed limited to 180km/h but is 0.8 seconds slower to 100km/h than the automatic. However, combined fuel consumption is 7.6l/100 km
The top of the range models will come with the 2.8-litre Duramax turbo diesel engine, boasting 144kW and a 0-100km/h time of 10.4 seconds. The combined fuel consumption for this engine is 9.5 l/100km.
LTZ models are available with optional four wheel drive with low range.
With regards to styling, the upper and lower grille sections run the full width of the nose with a wider trademark ‘bowtie bar’. Daylight running lights ensure maximum visibility and the bonnet sees sleeker contours on the leading edge
Inside the Chevrolet Trailblazer, a newly designed dashboard and front console gives a contemporary upmarket feel, finished off with contrast stitching and soft-touch materials. The second generation Mylink system is now Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatible.
“The recent upgrade reaffirms that the Chevrolet Trailblazer is great value – in fact, it is better value than ever – with more surprise and delight features than its rivals, especially in the way it integrates with mobile devices. Take the new safety equipment into account and the LTZ versions compare very favourably to more expensive vehicles as far as technology goes. At the other end of the range, the combination of the automatic box with a high output version of the 2.5-litre in an LT grade will make Trailblazer accessible to a wider audience, while the styling update means it is still very contemporary too,” said Olson.
