Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series

In honor of Mercedes-Benz’s in-house tuner AMG’s 40th anniversary, the German automaker has created an exclusive, ultra limited edition version of its top-powered CLK coupe.

Essentially a de-stickered and emergency light-less Formula 1 Safety Car, the CLK 63 AMG Black Series features unique bodywork, an additional 19kW, adjustable suspension and special trim.

Flared fenders give immediate notice to anyone that this is no average CLK. Those fenders are made out of super light weight carbon fiber, as is the front spoiler and rear diffuser. Those wide fenders hold new 19-inch wheels (265/30 up front, 285/30 out back).

Up 19kW to 373, the CLK63′s 6.3-litre AMG-designed V8 is powerful enough to push the CLK to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds, according to Mercedes-Benz. A larger, redesigned intake and freer-flowing exhaust help increase the power, as well as providing more audible growl.

The engine is mated to a 7-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters. A six percent lower final drive ratio provides faster immediate acceleration than a standard CLK63.

Inside, AMG sport bucket seats with aggressive side bolstering and extensive carbon fiber trim differentiate the model from other more subdued CLKs. A smaller DTM-style steering wheel was developed specifically for the Formula 1 Safety Cars, so it makes an appearance in the CLK63 AMG Black Series, as well.
