Don’t let the look and name of this car fool you. In actual fact this ’69 Camaro is a brand new car. Unlike the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro that has blended together old styling touches with new technology, this Camaro, from Richard Childress Racing, looks like it stepped through a time machine from when The Avengers was on television. But despite appearances, this Camaro is far from just a reproduction 60′s replica.

Fans of NASCAR are no doubt familiar with Richard Childress who has been part of more than 175 races and 10 major NASCAR championships. The Series 3 Camaro is the result of his vast experience and is for the serious driving enthusiast. A vehicle for someone that is looking for a car that can be enjoyed on the street and track. And in the case of the latter, we mean the closest thing to an actual NASCAR racing car as possible. To facilitate that transition RCR Camaros come with two engines. For the street, buyers can select either an all-aluminum427 cubic inch 432kW motor, or a “tamer” LS-3 fuel injected 373 c.i. with 357kW. The second powerplant is an RCR SB2 NASCAR race engine, tuned by RCR to conservatively produce over 447kW horsepower. Both engines come with full documentation, including dyno sheets. Power is transferred through a TREMEC 5 speed transmission and emits a powerful “bark” through a custom NASCAR exhaust system. Each Camaro also comes with 3-piece 18-inch HRE Competition wheels.

Inside, a custom carbon fibre dashboard and guages from RCR maintains a clean and updated look, without being completely out-of-place in a car that looks like it’s from the 60′s. But this does not detract from the car’s legitimate racing capabilities, which are reaffirmed by the custom upholstered interior that utilizes ProCar Elite Series 1 seats with 5 point race harneses and a roll cage.

Other features include race car pedals and a custom RCR gear shift knob. As is clear by the unique paint job that covers the Dynacorn reproduction body, Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s ride from his days in NASCAR served as inspiration for much of the vehicles motoring spirit. Availale options include an upgraded 6-speed gearbox, power steering, air conditioning, a brake upgrade to 6 piston calipers, 6-point roll cage and supercharging.

If you are ready to step into this retro-modern rocket, the entry fee begins at US$225,000 for the base Series 3 car and quickly moves north the closer you get to the real NASCAR experience.
