General Motors South Africa’s popular offering in the sub-compact passenger car sector, the Chevrolet Spark, has received a new lease on life ahead of the launch of the hot new Spark.
Instead of being phased out, the current Spark will continue in the Chevrolet line up as the Spark Lite, which will be sold alongside the new Spark when it arrives in South Africa later this year. “The Chevrolet Spark Lite, which offers an excellent value proposition, will serve the market with two models priced under R100 000,” says Chevrolet Brand Manager, Tim Hendon.
The compact Spark Lite offers a space efficient interior and provides a good entry into the comprehensive Chevrolet product range. The Spark Lite is available with either a 38 kW, 796 cc, 3-cylinder engine in ‘L’ specification, or a 48.5 kW, 995 cc, 4-cylinder engine in ‘LS’ spec. Fuel consumption is predictably frugal for both models, with claimed combined consumption figures of 5,1 l/100km and 5,8 l/100km respectively.
In terms of safety, Spark Lite is fitted with disc brakes in front and drums at the rear. Airbag protection for the driver is provided on the Spark Lite LS. Comfort and convenience features of the Spark Lite LS include power steering, air-conditioner, power operated front windows, remote operated side-mirrors and front fog lamps.
The Spark Lite receives a few exterior updates to keep it looking fresh. These include a new front grille, two tone bumper, side skirts and satin silver roof rails on both the L and the LS models. In addition the LS boasts chrome door handles and chrome body side mouldings.
Prices start from R82 300 for the Spark Lite L and from R98 700 for the LS. The Chevrolet Spark Lite comes standard with a 5-year/120 000 km warranty, as well as Roadside Assistance for the same warranty period and a 5-year anti-corrosion warranty.
