Fastest Production Car: Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
Bugatti has released the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – a ‘sports’ version of its already record-breaking Veyron.
Taking the once world’s fastest car and making it even ’sportier’ is nuts. But taking it to its top speed to prove its potential is even more nuts. Henri Raphanel, Bugatti’s official test driver did though, to achieve a new landspeed record for a production car in front of Guinness Book of Records officials. He and the car managed an average speed of 431 km/h.
Bugatti’s chief engineer said in a recent press release,”We took it that we would reach an average value of 425 km/h, but the conditions today were perfect and allowed even more.”
The new Super Sport is only available in two-tone black and orange and is also known as the ‘World Record Edition’, appropriately. Power from the 8,0-litre W16 engine has been increased from 746 kW (1 001 HP) to 895 kW (1 200 HP). Torque has also been boosted somewhat, from 1 250 N.m to 1 500 N.m. Exclusive? Bugatti says production is limited to just five, which have all since been sold already.
The production version will be fitted with an electronic speed limiter though, which holds it to a sluggish 415 km/h. Bugatti says this is due to the production tyres not being engineered to withstand higher speeds. Fair enough.
