The all-new Jaguar XJ brings a new spirit to Jaguar, one which promises to offer a seductive mix of design, performance and engineering.
Building on the success of the new XK and XF models, the introduction of the all-new XJ is a landmark for the revitalised Jaguar brand. Clearly positioned as the company’s four-door flagship, it extends the appeal of the XJ to a new generation of customers.
Jaguars are renowned for their elegant, sporting lines and the all-new XJ, with its fluid, contemporary style, is the boldest interpretation yet of Design Director Ian Callum’s vision for Jaguar in the 21st century. “The new XJ is a thoroughly modern interpretation of the quintessential Jaguar. Its visual impact stems from the elongated teardrop shape of the car’s side windows, a powerful stance and wide track. It is the most emphatic statement yet of Jaguar’s new design direction.”
Interior highlights of the new XJ include the chrome and piano black detailing that provides an eye-catching contrast to the leather and veneer surfaces. A 12.3-inch high-definition ‘Virtual Instruments’ replaces the traditional driver’s instrumentation, while a dual-view 8-inch touch-screen can display DVD movies or television programmes to the passenger while the driver views vehicle functions or follows satellite navigation. Premium surround sound options include a top-of-the-range 1 200W Bowers & Wilkins system. Advanced infotainment features also include hard drive-based audio and navigation systems, and comprehensive connectivity for portable audio and video devices via the ‘Media Hub’.
To complement the all-new cabin design is a level of choice in colours, veneers and leathers not seen before in a Jaguar. The two specification levels – Premium Luxury and Portfolio – allow the customer to tailor the car to suit their tastes. The range is completed with the 346 kW Supercharged model and the ultimate expression of performance and luxury in the 375kW Supersport model, which includes a leather roof-lining, leather seats and veneers with laser inlays.
The all-new XJ’s beauty is much more than skin-deep: it is constructed using Jaguar’s aerospace-inspired aluminium body technology, which makes the XJ lighter than its rivals by at least 150 kg. These technologies are said to significantly improve performance, handling and economy, while delivering increased strength, refinement and safety. A panoramic glass roof is an integral part of the all-new XJ’s design concept, enabling the car to have a lower, more streamlined roofline, while dramatically enhancing the feeling of light and space inside.
Proven Jaguar technologies are taken to new levels in the all new XJ. Features such as air suspension, Adaptive Dynamics (continuously variable damping), Active Differential Control and quick ratio power steering, deliver the blend of responsive, dynamic handling and refined, supple ride expected from a Jaguar.
The XJ benefits from Jaguar’s most advanced, powerful and efficient engines to-date. Customers will have a choice of four petrol and two diesel engines, all coupled to a shift-by-wire, six-speed automatic transmission controlled by the JaguarDrive Selector™ or steering wheel-mounted paddles. Power from the various engines are as follows: 3.0-litre AJ-V6D diesel with twin sequential turbochargers produces 202 kW and accelerates from 0 – 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds; 5.0-litre AJ-V8 naturally aspirated V8 petrol produces 283 kW and accelerates from 0 – 100 k/mh in 5.7 seconds; 5.0-litre AJ-V8 supercharged V8 petrol produces 346 kW and accelerates from 0 – 100 k/mh in 5.2 seconds; 5.0-litre AJ-V8 supercharged V8 petrol produces 375 kW and accelerates from 0 – 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
Apart from its power and performance, the all-new Jaguar XJ brings new standards of sustainability to the luxury vehicle segment. The lightweight aluminium structure – with 50 percent recycled material – underpinned by a lifecycle approach to vehicle design and manufacture, enables the new XJ to minimise its carbon footprint. This alone creates a potential saving of three tonnes of CO2 per vehicle, compared to a bodyshell made from aluminium.
