2012 Honda Civic Concept Revealed

After months of spy photos and then news of its development team returning to the drawing board, Honda has unveiled concept versions of the 2012 Honda Civic sedan and coupe variants at the Detroit Auto Show.

Destined to debut as the ninth-generation Civic, the concepts revealed, while not the production versions, offer a glimpse of what we can expect when the new model arrives later this year.

“The Civic is known for providing a balance of ‘just-right’ packaging, fun-to-drive character and outstanding fuel economy, at a price that even first-time buyers can afford,” American Honda’s John Mendel said at the concept’s Detroit unveiling. “The redesigned Civic builds on this legacy and promises to be the best Civic yet.”

Honda says the concepts shown here are a strong indication of the design cues that will mark the styling of the new Civic range, although – if only based on recent history – it is unlikely that the Coupe will be offered in South Africa.

Technical details remain unknown, but Honda has confirmed that both hybrid models and sportier Si-badged variants will feature among the Civic range.
