Audi’s premium A-segment hatchback can now be ordered with additional engine and transmission choices from November 2010.

As part of the latest developments on the A3 range, a new, low-emissions 1.6-litre TDI engine will be available. In addition, the 1.4 Attraction model is now available with Audi’s advanced 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox.

The introduction of the 1.6 TDI engine comes as the previous generation 1.9 TDI is discontinued world-wide. The new 1.6 TDI offers the same power and torque as the 1.9 TDI it replaces, but offers significantly lower CO2 emissions and reduced fuel consumption.

Power output for the 1 598 cc four-cylinder common-rail engine is rated at 77 kW at 4 400 r/min. Torque peaks at 250 Nm and is available from 1 500 r/min. The A3 1.6 TDI 3-door produces only 109 g/km of CO2, while the 5-door Sportback version offers a marginally higher 112 g/km of C02. Both these models will not attract any CO2 taxation. Fuel consumption is rated at only 4,1 and 4.3 l/100 km respectively in the combined cycle. Both A3 1.6 TDI models are only available with a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission for increased efficiency and enhanced drivability.

In addition to these new TDI models, a S tronic version of the popular A3 1.4 T FSI is now also available to order. Coupled with a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox, the A3 1.4 T FSI S tronic offers a sporty alternative in the entry A premium segment and remains the only car in this segment to offer a dual-clutch gearbox.

These new A3 models are offered in Attraction specification only, which means you’ll find standard equipment such as: ESP stability control; climatronic dual zone air-conditioner; electrically operated windows and side mirrors; radio/CD/MP3-player; driver and passenger airbags; side front airbags; matt black inlays; cloth upholstery; chrome accents on door handles and front bumper; high–gloss radiator grille; 16-inch alloy wheels.
