Shoehorning the 2.5-litre, turbocharged five-cylinder from the Audi TT-RS into an A3 Sportback was always going to be a good idea. In this case, it means the 250 kW and 450 Nm power the RS 3 from 0 – 100 km/h in a scorching 4.6 seconds.
Power is fed to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and Audi’s qauttro all-wheel drive system. The 19-inch wheels are also borrowed from the TT RS and together with quattro should see the RS 3 corner very quickly indeed.
Proving its intent, the fenders are made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) to keep weight down. The track has been widened to accommodate the all-wheel-drive system, while the stiffened suspension sits 25 mm lower than a regular Audi A3.
As you can see, the styling pulls no punches, letting onlookers know this car means business. Matt silver finishes, gaping intakes, rear diffuser, roof spoiler – it all adds up to one aggressive package.
Audi SA have not confirmed whether the RS 3 will be available locally, but if so, expect pricing to be announced closer to the car’s arrival around mid-2011.
