Although the Indian car market is still being established, due to the large population size and projected future growth in the country, it is a vital market that will become more relevant in coming years. As such, with each passing year automotive awards such as the Indian Car of the Year award have become more relevant, with the winner this year being Ford’s small Figo.
The Ford Figo was awarded the title of 2010 India Car of the Year for its answer to the need for affordable, yet safe and appealing transportation in the emerging Indian auto market.
The Ford Figo was unveiled in India with much fanfare in early 2010 and since then Ford has gone on to sell more than 60 000, setting a new sales record for a single nameplate in India. The Ford Figo was launched in South Africa in July.
