Alfa Romeo 4C GTA Teaser Image

The Alfa Romeo 4C GTA, planned for a 2011 Geneva show debut, could already be headed for production. The new Alfa two-seater coupé is being described as the brand’s new “halo” car and could finally add sporting impetus to a brand that many have been praying would get back to its sports and racing roots.

So far we know that the 4C GTA is a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive, two-seater coupé, built on a lightweight carbon fibre and aluminium chassis. At this stage rumours suggest it will have the same 1.75-litre engine as the Alfa Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde, but with power increased to 187 kW. Reports deny that it is being built by Pininfarina and the Geneva debut is still doubtful due to “delays in the concept model construction”. The model could take major design influences from the Pininfarina Alfa Romeo 2uettottanta Concept, which debuted at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show – pictured below.

The carbon fibre cockpit is being built by Italian chassis specialist Dallara and should be their next take on their previous project of the KTM X-Bow. Will the 4C GTA save Alfa? Enthusiasts have been dreaming of a new sports car from the Fiat brand, and this time round it could prove to be affordable. About 25 000 units are planned for production and Alfa says it wants a price tag of about EUR 40 000. Compared to the 8C Competizione, it could put the Alfa Romeo brand back on enthusiasts lips the world over.
