Ferrari’s upcoming 458 Italia Spider has been forced into an unceremonious debut ahead of its Frankfurt unveiling next month, with images of the convertible supercar surfacing online this weekend.
The Spider is the convertible version of Ferrari’s critically acclaimed 458 Italia, a car which, by and large, has exhausted the media’s arsenal of superlatives used to describe a ‘supercar’. Using a retractable hard-top, the 458 Spider will still be packing the 425 kW 4.5-litre V8 – coupled to a dual-clutch gearbox – making that hugely impressive sound. In addition, the convertible version will make even more of an impact, due to the added aural stimulation.
Expect the Ferrari 458 Italia Spider to benefit from chassis reinforcement to counter the loss of rigidity afforded by a roof and, as a result, deliver the same track-ready handling Ferrari has engineered into the 458 Italia hardtop.
Details are still scarce, but with the Frankfurt Motor Show coming up in September and images beginning to circulate, it’ll only be a matter of time before Ferrari spills the beans.
