Peugeot South Africa has two of its new 508 sedans at the Johannesburg Motor Show this week, as a preview to the local launch which takes place in November. Peugeot sees the new 508 model as reaffirming the company’s presence and ambitions in one of its traditional strong categories, that of the large family car.
The stylish exterior design reflects the firm’s new philosophy of quality, purity and efficiency, while the interior is said to combine technology with high quality materials to offer excellent perceived quality, both visually and to the touch. A very generous boot and level of standard specification are expected to provide interior comfort and convenience to impress.
In line with Peugeot’s strategy to produce vehicles that emit low levels of CO2 and maximise fuel efficiency, the 508 has been designed with a mix of efficient engines, corresponding environmental efficiency, reduced weight and improved aerodynamics. All engines will benefit from Peugeot’s new turbo diesel e-HDi stop/start system. This is the first of Peugeot’s the new generation of stop/start systems, which offers improved driveability and economy enhancements of up to 15%.
It is not yet known what models and power trains will be available locally when the Peugeot 508 is introduced in November.
