2012 Kia Cee’d Hatch Revealed

New images of Kia’s next-generation Cee’d hatch have surfaced online this week, ahead of its official debut at March’s Geneva Motor Show.

These latest shots reveal sleek profile highlighted by a heavily raked A-pillar, an upswept belt-line and a sharp character line along the bottom of the doors. The new Cee’d sports some striking similarities to the current Opel Astra, but for now at least, that’s something we won’t have to worry about, as the Cee’d has been developed exclusively for the European market. The Kia Cee’d is currently kept out of South Africa by the Cerato Hatch, which occupies the same position in the brand’s South African line-up.

In Europe, as it would in South Africa, the Cee’d competes directly with the Mazda3 and the Toyota Corolla, along with a cast of thousands of small cars not offered here.

While Kia has yet to offer any word on the next-generation Cerato range, it is possible that the brand will unify the Cee’d and Cerato models as it continues to challenge the Kia badge’s fast-disappearing image of cheap and cheerful econoboxes.
