First Details Of Toyota 86 For South Africa And New Aero Pack

Posted on 18 June 2012 by SACarFan

Recently, Toyota Germany announced a few additional styling options and an upgraded sound system for the Toyota 86, but things just got a whole lot more “in your face” with a new aerodynamics package.

With an already slippery drag coefficient of 0.27, the Toyota 86 is once of the most aerodynamic productions cars on the market right now. Toyota say this new aerodynamics package leaves the drag figure unchanged, but offers increased handling stability.

The front bumper-lip features vertical fins for additional control of air entering the front grille, along with dual 12-degree canards for optimised stability. The side skirts are designed to draw airflow away from the front wheel housing, while the rear bumper skirt works to manage air turbulence from the front of the car and smooth underbody airflow. A large rear wing, with horizontal ‘winglets’ on the uprights, ensures there will be no mistaking a Toyota 86 fitted with the optional aero package, while at the same time generating increased downforce.

The Toyota 86 is expected to be launched in South Africa in a matter of weeks, but Car Magazine say they have already laid their hands on a sales brochure, which reveals two levels of specification:

‘Standard’: colour-coded front and rear bumpers; colour-coded door handles; twin tailpipes and diffuser; halogen headlights with manual height adjustment; rear fog lights; 16-inch alloy wheels; 3-spoke leather steering wheel; air-conditioner; multi info display; fabric seat trim; leather gear knob and handbrake lever; aluminum pedals and foot rest; power windows; radio/CD/USB/Aux and 6-speaker sound system.

‘High’: SMART entry; HID front headlamps with automatic levelling; headlamp washers; 17-inch alloy wheels; 3-spoke leather steering wheel with paddle shift on A/T; dual zone climate control; cruise control; leather seat trim; heated front seats; aluminium pedals and foot rest; interior door handles in chrome; day/night frameless rear view mirror; digital and analogue speedometer set within central rev counter.

Toyota South Africa has not yet confirmed pricing, but the numbers are expected as below. If the aerodynamics package does become available locally, it is likely to only be available on the ‘High’ spec models.

Toyota 86 High M/T R329 400
