The Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition has been launched in honour of the US military. There’s not much that can be said about the blatant attempt to rouse the purchasing power of US patriotism, but at least Jeep has pledged to donate $250 (a whopping 0.88 percent) of the $28 165 purchase price to charities that support the country’s military.
So just how much ‘heat’ is the Wrangler Freedom Edition packing? Well, the model is based on the Wrangler Sport and is available in two- or four-door body styles. It features ‘Mineral Gray’ accents, military-inspired decals and black sidesteps. There’s also “Oscar Mike” badging, a Mopar fuel flap and 17-inch alloy wheels borrowed from the Wrangler Rubicon.
Interior changes are limited, but include embroidered seats, Quick Silver trim and Mopar slush mats. Standard features include electrically-operated windows, central-locking, remote keyless entry, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, and Jeep’s UConnect infotainment system.
The engine remains unchanged from that of the Wrangler Sport, meaning a 3.6-litre V6 lump is found under the bonnet. With 212 kW and 352 Nm of torque, the V6 hauls the Freedom Edition from 0 – 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds and, if you drive it gently, Jeep claim it’ll return fuel consumption of 11.2 L/100km on the highway.
