Citroen C1 Designed By Facebook

The lovable little Citroen C1 has been around for seven years now and it and its Peugeot 107 sister have had huge success over that time. Most notably for the little Toyota Aygo based vehicles compact, smart, cost effective design and spend-thrift economy. The Peugeot 107 for instance just walked away with the petrol class prize in this year’s 2012 Total Economy Run. Cottoning onto this broad fan base for the little city car, Citroen in the UK have released a limited edition C1 ‘Connexion’ which has been designed by Citroen’s Facebook fans.  Like or unlike?

Powering the little Citroen is the same 1.0-litre Toyota engine which puts out the same modest 50 kW it has always done, and it’s carried over with no modifications. The significance of the Connexion comes in the styling most voted on by fans across 24 000 variables.  The final product features a black exterior finish, scarlet red accents, LED day time running lights and bigger 14-inch alloys. The colour scheme extends from the outside onto interior as well with red accents around the speedo, air vents and central console. In the UK where it is sold, the ‘special edition’ Connexion carries a £ 500 premium over the regular car but Citroen also say it has £ 925 worth of extra kit thrown in for free, making it the good deal Citroen always like to offer their customers.

What started out sounding like a daft idea has actually turned out looking pretty good. Perhaps all cars will start being designed this way. After all, Facebook is probably the biggest focus-group in the world…
