Norwich-based firm Trident Performance Vehicles isn’t your usual car manufacturer, the company has historic ties to UK-based car makers TVR and Triumph, and they will present their new diesel-powered Trident Iceni Grand Tourer at the 2012 Salon Privé.
Built to order, for a base price of £75 000, the Iceni Grand Tourer is powered by 6.6-litre turbo-diesel mounted behind the front axle. The engine has been sourced from General Motors, where it serves in their range of commercial trucks, but placed in the lightweight body of a coupe, the result is supercar performance.
The Trident Iceni Grand Tourer has 320 kW and 1 286 Nm of torque at less than 3 250 r/min. The masses of grunt allow the car to accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of almost 320 km/h. As if that wasn’t enough, Trident offer a high-power version that sees power boosted to 492 kW and 1 422 Nm. With so much torque available, Trident claim the car will achieve 4.1 L/100km if driven at a steady 110 km/h because the engine strolls along at just 980 r/min whilst still having 948 Nm of torque at its disposal. With a full tank of diesel, the Iceni Grand Tourer has a range of more than 3 200 km.
In addition to the stellar performance and fuel economy, the engine can also be fueled on mineral diesel, bio diesel, palm oil and linseed oil.
Trident Sports Cars managing director, Phillip Bevan, commented on the forthcoming presentation of the car at the London car show saying, “We are very pleased to be at Salon Privé, which this year is a great celebration of all things British and home grown talent – something we feel very strongly about at Trident. It is also a place where sports cars and super cars of this calibre are sold and we look forward to taking new orders for the Iceni at Syon Park this September.”
