Toyota Racing Development, a.k.a TRD, is an in-house division responsible for development of performance packages, products and aerodynamic aids for Toyota products. The company has just announced a new range of accessories for the Toyota 86, which it will debut at the Paris Motor Show.
TRD’s parts catalog for the Toyota 86 will mark the tuning division’s entry into the European market, having been chiefly available in Japan to this point. The parts will be available to purchase from Toyota dealerships and include a range of interior, exterior and mechanical components.
In terms of aerodynamics, TRD will offer a front spoiler, side skirts, rear spoiler and rear diffuser. A metallic silver fuel filler cap with hexagon bolt detailing is also available.
A choice of 18-inch TRD aluminium wheels includes a forged ‘SF2′ version, which reduces unsprung weight, while the cast ‘TF6′ version offers a 10-spoke TRD design. Both are designed to fit the company’s Monoblock Brake Kit which uses 355 mm front and 345 mm rear discs paired with Brembo calipers.
Chassis tweaks can be had in the form of a set of revised shocks and springs, which offer adjustable ride height. A set of front and rear stabiliser bars, as well as strut braces are available, which promise more grip and reduced body roll.
Performance parts include sports air and oil filters, a new radiator cap for better cooling efficiency and a four-port tuned exhaust.
Interior accessories include a shorter, leather-clad gearstick with a more comfortable grip.
A full TRD Toyota 86 model is currently under consideration. According to a Toyota spokesman, “We are looking to introduce a TRD version of the GT86 early next year and we will gauge market reaction before making further decisions.”
