As the SA Car Fan team puts the 2013 Wesbank / SAGMJ South African Car of the Year Finalists through their paces at the Gerotek proving grounds, over three days, we though it pertinent to bring you news of the ten finalists that have been revealed for the 2013 World Car of the Year 2013 competition.
These awards competitions are run differently all over the world. In the case of the World Car of the Year, an international jury of 66 motoring journalists select the 10 finalists by a vote. In alphabetical order, they are:
In addition to the World Car of the Year, the jurors also vote on the the 2013 World Performance Car Award. And in alphabetical order, they are:
Each juror gets to retest each car, ahead of another round of voting; the results of the vote are totalled by KPMG and the winners are announced at a press conference at the New York Motor Show on 28 March. The most recent World Car of the Year winners were the Volkswagen Up!; the Nissan Leaf; and the South African-built Volkswagen Polo back in 2010.
