One FAB McLaren 12C Spider

Aftermarket tuners, FAB Design, have applied what they like to call the ‘Terso’ body kit to the latest McLaren 12C Spider. This comes in the wake of a similar body kit they provided for the McLaren MP4-12C Coupé last year.

We know it’s quite a lot to take in at first, but examine the philosophy behind some parts of the over-the-top body kit and you’ll soon realise FAB only wanted to improve some of the otherwise lacklustre aspects of the original McLaren design. And then, granted, some of it gets needlessly Orange and out of hand.

The overall look of the car is notably different to that of the standard model. We’re also sure the designer must have had a love for the Lamborghini Diablo back in the day; however, the much more aggressive front end does give more menace to the McLaren’s nose than it ever had before.

The car seen in these photos was unveiled at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon showcasing the body that’s awash with air intakes, side skirts, and a massive rear diffuser, bumper and wing combination around the back. In fact the new (manually) adjustable rear spoiler is installed over the top of the stock unit which still doubles up as the airbrake as well.

There’s also an unusual front splitter mounted just below the line of the front windscreen, while the FAB McLaren 12C Spider sits on 20-inch FAB-Design Evolution forged wheels covered in Dunlop SP SportMaxx tyres. Other changes include a stainless steel sports exhaust system and a three-chamber carbon tail pipe which has helped increased the twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8’s power output from 460 kW to 507 kW.

This, most likely, also comes courtesy of other ECU hardware changes were necessary. Performance wise, the McLaren 12C Spider Terso reaches 100 km/h in three-seconds and can hit a top speed of 343 km/h. If it’s not to your taste, never fear, FAB Design said they only plan on making only 10 units.

Expect those to be sold at a sizeable increase over the standard McLaren 12C Spider’s £195 500 (R2.6-million) price tag.
